(Menu) Translations

I got tired of being asked what various menu items were. So I translated a month’s worth of disch choices. Turns out the menu repeats itself more frequently than I’d perviously noticed. Still, all’s good.

Unfortunately, some translations get lost when the original and target languages have no common core (e.g., English and Chinese, or Arabic and Japanese, or Spanish and Hindi). Meanings, instead, are translated. But something will always be lacking.

Yet, this lack, this difficulty, this excellent story fodder — the misunderstandings, arrogance, humility and more that could be incorporated into a story. Subtle or blatant.

Fun tropes to mess with.
