More Backstory or Essential Scene?

Difficult to decide at this point.

I’m currently writing a scene in the secret project that requires a lot of backstory. Obviously, the background work won’t appear in the final version, but it is important that I, the author, understand it. Right now, it’s in draft form. But it’s working out. Mainly because I’ve finally figured out the main technology’s inventor and how the civilization got to their current technological point. Of course, I’m not saying any more than that.

The thing with backstories, they’re only interesting to the writer. For the reader, this information needs to be woven into the story as needed. And not all of it is needed. However, in this draft, I need the scene to be written in its entirety – the details are necessary to the progression of the story.

Anyhow, back to it!
